But wait, there’s more…

Dutch mezzo-soprano Véronique van der Meijden is an emerging artist whose work is driven by a deep fascination with the meeting point of music, language and human experience. Drawn equally to poetry, sacred music and opera, she is especially inspired by repertoire in which music and text confront questions of fate, grief, longing and transformation. The emotional world of Mahler and the German late-Romantic tradition, alongside the dramatic intensity of Italian opera and the existential depth of Russian music, form important pillars of her artistic landscape.

Her approach to performance is shaped by a longstanding love of classical languages and literature. Through her study of Latin and Ancient Greek, she developed a lasting affinity for rhetoric, tragedy and the expressive power of language - elements that continue to shape her understanding of music, character and storytelling.

At the heart of her operatic work are characters and theatrical worlds marked by emotional and psychological tension. Since 2017, she has been a member of Operagroep The Fat Lady under the artistic direction of Tamir Chasson. Her roles there have included Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Sorceress in Dido & Aeneas, and Tamar in Tamar, as well as parts in Urlicht!, Bal Masqué and La Donna Ideale. She also created a role in Lovesick, a contemporary work composed especially for her on texts from the Song of Songs.

Her artistic development has been shaped through work with Tamir Chasson, Cheryl Studer and Rosalind Plowright.

Alongside her stage work, her concert repertoire spans composers including Bach, Händel, Stravinsky, Mahler, Rossini, Vivaldi and Verdi, with a particular affinity for large-scale sacred and orchestral repertoire.

She continues to seek repertoire and collaborations in which musical expression and human storytelling meet with emotional honesty and dramatic depth.
